Ethnic Minority Issues and Racial Discrimination Essay Topics
Ethnic Minority Issues and Racial Discrimination Essay TopicsRacial discrimination is an ugly, cruel and depressing reality that we should all wish to avoid at all costs. Unfortunately, it is all too easy for one who has not experienced such a person-to be lulled into a false sense of security by the lack of overt discrimination. The reality is that often the least well-off groups are the ones most vulnerable to issues of racial discrimination. The first area of discrimination is in employment. Whilst at first glance it seems that discrimination would be limited to at work, there is a larger level of discrimination when we consider people in the public sector. Not only are they subjected to overtly racist remarks, but they are also unable to access certain facilities. These people, whether in the private or public sector, should not be pushed out of employment just because of their race.Even within the business sector, minority groups face the dangers of racial discrimination. In fact , recent research has shown that one in five of all businesses in the UK suffer from issues of racial discrimination. This figure is particularly striking when we consider that some businesses might have over a hundred employees.Throughout the employment sphere, there are further areas of discrimination that may be directly responsible for the unequal distribution of the wealth that we see. Businesses with ethnic minority representatives are less likely to be invited to future parties, as is more likely to be the case with employees. This phenomenon may be due to the fact that the majority of these individuals do not live in the area where the party is held. It may also be due to the fact that they do not know the people who invite them. This may lead to situations where both members of the minority group are left feeling isolated and excluded.Apart from the risks of life within the business and at work, other factors that can lead to the perpetuation of racial discrimination include prejudice within the family. No two families are the same and prejudices may form within families more readily than between families. As such, it is vital that we set aside one evening of family time each week to discuss any and all issues that have arisen from instances of discrimination.Race discrimination that is given the personal attention that it deserves has been found to be detrimental to the betterment of the situation. Whilst we can still seek to be a decent human being in spite of our prejudices, when we find ourselves making an example of someone to the world then we will see an erosion of our moral and ethical integrity. This is a problem that cannot be ignored; it has to be addressed head on if we are to escape its impact.Despite what the many opinion pieces in the media may tell you, no amount of discussion about race will change the fact that discrimination against ethnic minority groups will always exist. However, our society does need to step up and combat the issu e when it is made aware of. Such cases of racial discrimination must be properly condemned by those in positions of power in order to prevent the inequality that is detrimental to both the minorities concerned and the wider society.
